›› About Gay Celluloid

A number of years ago I started to post the odd review or two of the gay films that I had seen, reviews that have snowballed into the site you see before you now.

Generally and with the obvious exception of such major US features as the like of A Single Man, Brokeback Mountain and Milk, I tend to stay largely away from mainstream Hollywood, preferring instead to highlight the works of independent filmmakers, many of whom being openly gay themselves and often battling against the restrictions of a limited budget, take an outright pride in delivering films made for the viewing pleasure of a gay, strictly number six on the Kinsey scale, audience.

Not that this site purports to feature reviews of every gay film or indeed cinematic work with a homosexual character in it. Far from it. But it does claim to be small on photos, but big on reviews, unlike many a site found on the web that frankly speaking is the reverse way around, being small on critical content.

In the main, I try to present a mix of the genre itself; from award-winning documentaries to romantic feel good comedies, to the perennial favourite of coming out to works of the homoerotic nature.

As too, I’m ever on the lookout to those features that boldly take gay cinema in a completely different direction, not overlooking the countries in which the release of a gay film in itself, equates to a major step forward in the advancement of said countries gay rights.

Hopefully you’ll find a film or two that is of interest to you and perhaps one or two titles that you've never heard of before.

For the record, new reviews are added as frequently as time allows.

Please feel free to drop me a line via the press and go contact form, as review requests and feedback are always welcome.

In the meantime, I wish you - happy gay viewing.
Dave :)

Oh and for those interested in specifics, then this is for you:-

  • All available on DVD and URL references are correct as-of-going to press; subsequent changes and / or deletions may occur.

  • Site optimised for 1024 x 768 16 Bit high colour using MS Internet Explorer.

  • Specific thanks as ever go to all parties for the use of photographic stills for illustrative purposes, with all visual content copyright to respectful owners. As it obvious, no photograph is indicative of a person's sexual orientation ... this however is not to say that some of the actors featured are anything but out and proud.

  • Finally and for those in the trade viewing this site who wish to submit a screener of their latest work for review purposes, please note that the submission of a screener DVD does not guarantee that the film will be reviewed, as-of-when a review may appear and to what form of praise or criticism the review will take. I say it like it is - period.

  • Screeners are however most welcome. Email dave@gaycelluloid.com for address / contact details. Note: review copies are non-returnable.

  • All reviews / text Copyright © 2003 - 2010 David Hall.
