Dave says:

Rejoicing in the cultural differences of East meets West, here we find writer and director Michael Mew deliver a short film that's not so much about meeting the Fockers; but more about meeting the Wongs.

For it was two years ago that Chris (Mark Louie) not only came out to his parents, but along the way proudly told them that he's dating a white guy. Now with the festive season upon them, he's not only bringing his French Canadian boyfriend Pierre (Bruno Baronet) home to meet his parents, but over the course of the Christmas dinner - Peking Turkey style, is set to announce their engagement to each other. Only with Mr. Wong's (Henry Mah) traditional views at odds with the more open-minded outlook on life of his wife (Jasmin Dring), can Pierre find the right moment to tell them that he's asked their son to marry him?

Screened at over 50 film festivals around the world, along the way winning several audience awards, this ever so gentle festive take on same-sex love in its own laid-back style beautifully showcases how a loving mother comes to make her prejudiced, both sexually and culturally, husband embrace not only gay blood within the family, but their future son-in-law.

All of which makes for a heart-warming story of sexual acceptance, one that by no surprise had since been used to combat discrimination
and bullying in high schools throughout British Columbia. And whilst perhaps too sweet for some and certainly in need of the odd va-va-voom, there's no doubting the sincerity of its message and the heartfelt compassion of a director with his heart in the right place. As ever; see what you think.
