the bittersweet emotions of a final farewell.
My Last Ten Hours With You by Sophie Hyde Parting Glances, this is not. Rather this is the story of lovers Jeremy and Mark and as the title implies, their last ten hours spent together before Jeremy leaves passport in hand, linguistic tapes packed, to start a new life overseas. Between then and now however they talk, they drink, they have sex, even venturing out to a special beach party held in honour of Jeremyís impending departure. Only are the two destined to see each other again?

Laced with the bittersweet emotions of love and loss, this exploratory work is almost like a prequel to Christopher Banks' tale of unconditional love, reflective style, that is Teddy. Not that the cast or country are the same. But in many ways this is akin to "the goodbye" that is rarely cinematically seen, that of the last few hours that two lovers spend together, before bidding each other a final farewell.

Only for those expecting some form of tearful parting embrace here, then Iím sorry to disappoint you, given this is an uneven affair; at times hot, sometimes cold, frequently serious, occasionally playful. That you can feel their pain and the sheer torment of their separation, shows just how well it has been shot, in a work that was screened in 2008 as part of the prodigious IRIS Prize International Film Festival.
